Abstract:
A radio communication apparatus comprises a dielectrically loaded antenna 1 with a core of dielectric material located within a three dimensional antenna element structure and a feed structure in the form of an elongated circuit board 14 extending through a passage in the core. A radio circuit means with a circuit board 40 with at least one conductive layer having a plurality of contact terminal support areas conductively bonded to respective spring contacts 42 positioned to resiliently bear against respective contact areas of the antenna 1. The elongated circuit board 14 may be laminated and include a transmission line feed. The contact spring terminals 42 may be metallic leaf spring elements. Also disclosed is a backfire dielectrically loaded antenna 1 with a core of dielectric material located within a three dimensional antenna element structure and a feed structure extending through a passage in the core, where a proximal end surface of the core 12P has a conductive coating patterned to form at least two electrically separated conductive areas 90 which are connected to respective feed conductors of the antenna and where the areas 90 provide a pair of planar contact surfaces suitable for mounting the antenna 1 on a host equipment circuit board 40.
