Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To treat in a short time, arsenic contained in a solution or soil.SOLUTION: A method for treating arsenic includes an arsenic oxidation step for oxidizing trivalent arsenic contained in a solution or soil containing bivalent iron, trivalent arsenic, and peptones and/or extracts into pentavalent arsenic by using thermophilic iron-oxidizing bacteria. The addition amount of the peptones and/or extracts is preferably 0.01 w/v% or more to the solution or the soil. Further, an arsenic immobilizing step for immobilizing pentavalent arsenic as crystalline iron arsenate is preferably performed, after the arsenic oxidation step.
