Abstract:

To provide a method and an apparatus for treating chemical substance contamination, with which the chemical substances can be more safely and more efficiently treated as compared with the conventional treatment with persulfate, in cleaning the soil and ground water contaminated with chemical substances, particularly, a chlorinated organic compound or an aromatic hydrocarbon.

The method for treating chemical substance contamination includes a step of adding persulfate and chelated iron to the soil and ground water contaminated with chemical substances and a step of cleaning the contaminated soil and ground water. Persulfate and chelated iron are added so that the concentration of the added persulfate becomes ≥5,000 mg/L and the molar ratio (the persulfate/the iron) of the added persulfate to the added iron becomes ≥5.
