Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a melting raw material which can be efficiently melted as the melting raw material for an electron beam melting furnace using scrap, and a method for melting metal which can be efficiently melted using scrap.SOLUTION: The melting raw material for metal production is characterized in that a compound layer including at least either the oxide or nitride of the main component metal composing the melting raw material is formed on the surface layer part, and the thickness of the compound layer is 0.5 to 1,000 μm. Further, the method for melting metal is characterized in that the melting raw material for metal production is melted by an electron beam melting furnace or a plasma arc melting furnace.
