Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for drying a titania particle-containing honeycomb compact, capable of drying while suppressing the generation of dry cracks without requiring the step of forming titania-containing secondary particles.SOLUTION: A columnar honeycomb compact has partition walls to form a plurality of partitioned cells extending from an inlet end face to an outlet end face, the partition walls containing titania particles. The honeycomb compact is covered with a cover part in contact with at least a side face of the honeycomb compact. The covered honeycomb compact is accommodated in a honeycomb housing having a bottom plate with a plurality of open holes, a cylindrical body disposed on the bottom plate to compose a side face, and a top plate disposed on the cylindrical body, having a plurality of open holes. The method for drying a honeycomb compact includes drying the covered honeycomb compact accommodated in the honeycomb housing in an atmosphere with a temperature difference between dry bulb and wet bulb of a dry bulb and wet bulb thermometer of 1.5°C or less and an air velocity of 0.2 m/s or less.
