To provide an electric water heater capable of effectively preventing an occurrence of "no-water heating" and effectively suppressing the delay in achieving desired temperature of hot water output.SOLUTION: An electric water heater includes: a water supply flow passage connected to a water supply source; an electromagnetic valve for controlling water supply from the water supply source to the water supply flow passage; an instantaneous heat exchanger for heating water flowing through the water supply flow passage; a flow rate determination part for determining whether or not the flow rate of the water flowing through the water supply flow passage on the upstream side of the heat exchanger is a threshold value or less; and a heat exchange control part for controlling an energization amount for the heat exchanger. The heat exchange control part executes energization to the heat exchanger irrespective of a result of the determination by the flow rate determination part over a predetermined first time after the water supply is started by the electromagnetic valve. After the elapse of the first time, in the meanwhile, the heat exchanger control part restricts the energization amount to the heat exchanger when the determination result is the threshold value or less on the basis of the result of the determination by the flow rate determination part.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
