Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas diffusion electrode structure particularly for a two- chamber type brine electrolytic cell applicable to a large-sized electrolytic cell as well at relatively high current density and electrolysis method using the same. SOLUTION: A gas-liquid permeation layer 19 having high gas holdability is installed at the reaction site between a gas diffusion electrode 15 and an ion exchange membrane 12 in the ion exchange membrane method electrolytic cell 11. This gas-liquid permeation layer holds the reaction gas supplied through the gas diffusion electrode, thereby permitting the existence of a sufficient amount of the reaction gas at the reaction site.
