Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: an electrolyte which can achieve a high energy density, and long-term stability at high and low temperatures; and a redox flow battery using such an electrolyte.SOLUTION: An electrolytic device has a cell 1. The cell includes: a positive electrode cell room including a positive electrode composed of a carbon electrode; a negative electrode cell room including a negative electrode composed of a carbon electrode; and an electrolytic film serving as a diaphragm for isolating and separating the positive electrode cell room and the negative electrode cell room from each other. Here, an electrolyte that the positive electrode cell room includes is referred to as "positive electrode electrolyte", and an electrolyte that the negative electrode cell room includes is referred to as "negative electrode electrolyte". The positive electrode electrolyte and the negative electrode electrolyte are stored in a positive electrode electrolyte tank 2 and a negative electrode electrolyte tank 3 respectively, and delivered to the respective cell chambers through liquid feeding tubes 5 by liquid feeding tube pumps 4 and others. The electrolytes each contain water, vanadium ions, and a sulfonic group and/or polymer having a phosphonic acid group.
