PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine for a work machine the weight and size of which are reduced.SOLUTION: An engine for a work machine 20 includes a first bevel gear 64 coaxially provided in a crank shaft 49, and a second bevel gear 65 supported in a crossing manner with respect to the crank shaft 49. In addition, a drive timing pulley 66 is supported coaxially with the second bevel gear 65. Furthermore, a cam driving belt 68 is wound around the drive timing pulley 66 and the driven timing pulley 67. In addition, when the tooth number of the first bevel gear 64 is represented by N1, the tooth number of the second bevel gear 65 is represented by N2, the tooth number of the drive timing pulley 66 is represented by N3, and the tooth number of the driven timing pulley 67 is represented by N4, N1=0.5×(N2/N3)×N4 is satisfied.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 8
