Abstract:
Solid aluminum is introduced into a furnace (2) and melted to form a bath of aluminum (4). Variations in carbon monoxide (CO) concentration and temperature are monitored in the fumes (6) leaving the furnace and the melting process is controlled as a function of the formation of oxides on the surface of the aluminum deduced from the measured variations Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for carrying out the process, with means (10, 12) of detecting variations in the concentration of CO and the temperature of the fumes leaving the furnace; and (2) an aluminum smelting furnace of reverberation or rotating type containing the device.
