Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correctly recognize the colors of an object that emit light of variety of luminance, by exerting control such that an amount of exposure of an imaging unit mounted in a vehicle is equal to an optimum amount of exposure in accordance with a running environment.SOLUTION: If the maximum luminance of an R component does not exceed a threshold Hr1 after the recognition of a red signal, an exposure time is lengthened until the ratio of a G component to the R component reaches the maximum ratio at which red can be recognized (S13). If the maximum luminance of the R component does not exceed a threshold Hr2 after the recognition of a yellow signal, an exposure time is lengthened until the ratio of the R component to the G component reaches the ratio at which yellow can be recognized (S17). If the maximum luminance of the G component does not exceed a threshold Hgr after the recognition of a green signal, exposure time is lengthened until the ratio of the R component to the G component and a B component reaches the maximum ratio at which green can be recognized (S20). On the other hand, if they exceed their respective thresholds, exposure time is shortened (S14, S18, and S21). Thus, the colors of an object that emits light of a variety of luminance can be correctly recognized.
