Abstract:
PURPOSE: To produce an arom. polyester which has high crystallinity and m.p., low viscosity and second-order transition temperature, and excellent moldability by thermally melting and reacting isophthalic acid, an aliph. dicarboxylic acid, an arom. dihydroxy compd., and a phenol in a specified manner.
CONSTITUTION: An arom. polyester having an intrinsic viscosity of 0.4-1.5 is produced by thermally melting and reacting isophthalic acid or an arom. dicarboxylic acid component mainly comprising isophthalic acid, an 8-12C aliph. dicarboxylic acid, hydroquinone or an arom. dihydroxy compd. component mainly comprising hydroquinone, and, if necessary, a phenol optionally substd. by a 1-5C alkyl group in molar ratios simultaneously satisfying formulas I, II, and III (wherein A, B, C, and D are the numbers of moles of the arom. dicarboxylic acid, aliph. dicarboxylic acid, arom. dihydroxy compd., and phenol, respectively) in the presence of an esterification catalyst.
