To provide a glass melting method using a glass melting furnace which is excellent in energy efficiency, can produce a desired good glass molten material in a short period of time and is compact , that is small in the installation space.
In the glass melting method using the glass melting furnace provided with a melting zone and a clarifying zone to produce the glass molten material from glass raw materials and auxiliary materials, a combustion supporting gas having ≥90 vol.% oxygen concentration is supplied to an oxygen burner attached downward on a ceiling wall in the melting zone of the glass melting furnace and combusted as the oxygen burner faces downward. The whole or a part of the glass raw materials and auxiliary materials are supplied pneumatically into the flame downward through a flow passage in the oxygen burner to be melted and a gas produced in the furnace in such a case is discharged from a discharge port provided on the ceiling wall or the side wall upper part of the clarifying zone.
