To provide an article housing device and article housing furniture, which is capable of housing the object such as a book even at a place with a narrow width and matching with furniture such as a bureau.

The article housing device is provided with a base 13 provided with rails, an article housing body 3 provided with casters 19 and 20 running on the rails 12 of the base 13, a front cover plate 9 of the body 3, provided with extension rails 14 connectable to the rails 12 of the base 13 and provided on the back, a hinge means 12a hinging the cover plate 9 on the base 13 for turning the front cover plate 9 relative to the base 13 and an extensible/contractible member 17 of which one end is fixed to the body 3 and the other end is fixed to the front cover plate 9.
