Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination optical system and an image display apparatus which allow compact configuration of the illumination optical system even when the number of elements serving as light sources is increased.SOLUTION: An illumination optical system includes: a two-dimensional laser-array light source; an integrator optical system; a plurality of first lenses; and a plurality of second lenses. The two-dimensional laser-array light source includes a plurality of laser light sources arranged in a two-dimensional array on a plane. The integrator optical system superposes incident light and emits the light to an irradiated surface. The plurality of first lenses is disposed parallel to a plane of the two-dimensional array and superposes beams from the two-dimensional laser-array light source in a first axis direction and emits the beams to the integrator optical system while limiting a divergence angle in the first axis direction in the plane of the two-dimensional array. The plurality of second lenses is disposed rearward the first lenses and superposes the beams from the two-dimensional laser-array light source in a second axis direction orthogonal to the first axis direction and emits the beams to the integrator optical system while limiting a divergence angle in the second axis direction.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
