Abstract:
To provide an image forming apparatus that can execute, at an appropriate timing, switching of two transfer rollers selectively brought into pressure contact with an image carrier.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises an image forming section, an image input section, a transfer unit 9, a transfer voltage power supply, and a control section. The transfer unit includes a transfer roller that has a core grid and an elastic layer laminated on an outer peripheral surface of the core grid and brings the elastic layer into pressure contact with an image carrier to form a transfer nip part, and transfers a toner image formed on the image carrier to a recording medium that passes through the transfer nip part. The transfer unit has, as the transfer roller, a first roller 40 and a second roller 41 that has a larger axial length of the elastic layer than that of the first roller. The control section arranges either one of the first roller or the second roller opposite to the image carrier according to the size in a width direction of image data input to the image input section and the size in a width direction of the recording medium.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7
