Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device that can effectively prevent both dots that can be generated in a document-read image due to interference of light waves in a gap between a document and a transparent plate and a shadow that can be generated in a document-read image due to floating of a document with respect to the transparent plate, an image forming apparatus including the image reading device, and a document holding device.SOLUTION: A document holding device holds a plurality of types of regular-size documents placed on a transparent plate of a document placement table including the transparent plate, and comprises a pressing member that presses the plurality of types of regular-size documents, and a contact member that is provided on the pressing member and in contact with the documents when pressing the documents. The pressing member includes a first pressing area for pressing a document of a predetermined size smaller than the maximum size in the plurality of types of regular sizes, and a second pressing area other than the first pressing area; and the thickness of the first pressing area is smaller than the thickness of at least an area in the vicinity of the outside of the first pressing area in the second pressing area.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 17
