Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus which can recognize a scene of a whole photographing object without need of a structure of a complicated image composition circuit and the like and which prevents damage of display quality of a through image displayed on a monitor, and to provide an imaging method.SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes: an imaging optical system; an imaging element; an exposure control unit configured to alternately perform first exposure control and second exposure control; a through image generating unit; a through image display unit updating the through image at every prescribed period and displaying the image on the monitor; and a scene recognition unit outputting a recognition result of the imaging scene based on the first and second through images. The scene recognition unit is configured to output a recognition result of the scene by combining the first recognition result and the second recognition result. The through image display unit is configured to continuously display only the first through image or the second through image on the monitor.
