Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable inhibition by use of a small sized and inexpensive charger, of inrush current to a DC capacitor, which is likely to occur at the start-up of the power conversion device.SOLUTION: In an initial charging method of a power conversion device composed of a plurality of inverter cells in which a DC capacitor is connected to each inverter cell on a DC side and an AC output side of the inverter cells are connected in series with each other, after a charger is connected to a DC side of a predetermined one inverter cell and the DC capacitor of the predetermined one inverter cell is charged, only one inverter cell is sequentially selected from the other inverter cells in each case and all of semiconductor switches of the inverter cell concerned are controlled to be turned to an OFF state and semiconductor switches of the remaining inverter cells are controlled to be turned to an output side short-circuit state thereby to charge the DC capacitor of the other inverter cells one by one by using output voltage of the inverter cell to which the charger is connected.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
