PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a practical inspection device and inspection method in a vertical shaft that offer unconventional effects.SOLUTION: When inspecting inside a vertical shaft 21 a top opening 21a of which is closed by a cover body 20, a camera 1 is hung and introduced into the vertical shaft 21 from an entry/exit 22 formed close to a peripheral edge part of the cover body 20, the entry/exit allowing a person to enter/exit. An inspection device for a vertical shaft checks a state of corrosion inside the vertical shaft 21, or the like by photographing inside the vertical shaft 21 with the camera 1. The inspection device includes a spanned member 5 fitted by spanning between edge parts 22a that face each other on the entry/exit 22, a fitting member 2 provided detachably on the spanned member 5 and placed inside the vertical shaft 21, and a hanging member 3 provided on the fitting member 2 for hanging the camera 1.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
