PURPOSE: To reduce the load of design change due to specification change, while maintaining the advantages of wire cutback by the use of communications.
CONSTITUTION: This control system includes a power-train arithmetic and control unit 11, an injection control unit 12, an ignition control unit 13, an input/ output (I/O) processing unit 13, a transmission control unit 15, and a throttle control unit 16, and a sensor actuator and an output terminal of diagnostic signals, etc., both of which are not connected to the control units other than the I/O control unit 14, are connected to the respective portions of the I/O control unit 14. Changing specifications necessitates changing the design of the hardware of the I/O processing unit 14. The unit 14 is smaller than a conventional one that handles everything, because the unit 14 has only portions related solely to I/O processing, and so a variety of tests accompanying the design change of the hardware become easier to perform, allowing the load of the design change required for the specification change to be reduced.
