PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for kneading a rubber material, capable of obtaining a quality-stabilized rubber material while preventing blowout of a compounding agent charged in the kneading chamber of a hermetically closed kneader.SOLUTION: A method for kneading a rubber material includes: grasping the charging state of a rubber material R in a kneading chamber 4a by the data acquired from a sensor 13 after charging the rubber material R comprising a raw material rubber G and a compounding agent N in the kneading chamber 4a; controlling the vertical movement of a ram weight 8 by a control part 12 on the basis of the above data; preliminarily kneading the rubber material R by rotating a rotor 3 in such a state as stopping the ram weight 8 at a prescribed position PP above a lower limit position LP when the control part 12 determines that the internal pressure of the kneading chamber 4a becomes higher than a preset allowable pressure in the case of downward movement of the ram weight 8 to the lower limit position LP; and after that, kneading the rubber material R by rotating the rotor 3 in such a state as stopping the ram weight 8 at the lower limit position LP.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
