PURPOSE: To generate a false hand-written pattern by integrating length variation, positional variation and an attribute expressing relation among plural lines restricting the variation in a grammar indicating which lines constitute a category to which a pattern belongs in a method for generating a pattern constituted of plural lines.

CONSTITUTION: This pattern generating device is constituted of an input device 101 for inputting attribute grammar description, an information processor 102 for processing the attribute grammar description and converting the description into a pattern signal and an output device 103 for outputting a processed pattern signal. In the processor 102, an interpreting part 201 interpretes a grammar rule sent from the device 101, an execution control part 202 controls a line plotting part 203 based upon the interpreted rule and the plotting part 203 forms a line as a signal. Thus length variation, positional variation and an attribute expressing relation among plural lines restricting the variation are integrated in a grammar indicating which lines constitute a category to which a pattern belongs to.
