Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination device being capable of improving utilization efficiency of light while simplifying a configuration, and a projector.SOLUTION: An illumination device comprises a light source unit and a uniformizing unit. The uniformizing unit includes: a first lens array being arrayed with a plurality of first lenses having shapes substantially similar to a region to be illuminated on an orthogonal plane with respect to a central axis of light from the light source unit and dividing incident light into a plurality of partial light fluxes; and a second lens array being arrayed with a plurality of second lenses having shapes substantially similar to the region to be illuminated on the orthogonal plane and superimposing the plurality of partial light fluxes on the region to be illuminated. The light source unit includes: a solid light source; a wavelength conversion element converting a wavelength of light emitted from the solid light source; and an anisotropic diffusion element being disposed between the solid light source and the wavelength conversion element and causing a shape of light emitted to coincide with an effective area of each of the plurality of second lenses.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
