In a lighting method for lighting the merchandise displayed in the showcase 1 with lighting devices, LED lighting devices 11 are used as the lighting devices, optimal values of the color temperature and the lighting intensity of every merchandise are set according to the characteristics of the merchandise, the color temperature and the lighting intensity of a total light being the total of lighting lights and environment lights emitted from the environment, are measured by color sensors 12 disposed in the vicinities of the merchandise in the case 1, and the color temperature and the lighting intensity are controlled by an RGB control portion 13 so that the measured values are approximated to the optimal values.
