Abstract:
Disclosed is a liquid crystal alignment agent which contains a polyamic acid ester having a repeating unit, and having an end modified such that an amino group on the end has a specific structure. The liquid crystal alignment agent is characterised in containing: a polyamic acid ester having a repeating unit represented by general formula (1), and having an end modified such that an amino group on the end has a specific structure represented by general formula (2); and an organic solvent. (In general formula (1), X1 represents a tetravalent organic group, Y1 represents a divalent organic group, R1 represents a C1-5 alkyl group, and A1 and A2 independently represent a C1-10 alkyl group, alkenyl group, or alkynyl group which can have a hydrogen atom or a substituent.) (In general formula (2), A represents a single bond, -O-, -S-, or -NR3-, R1 and R2 independently represent a C1-30 organic group, and R2 and R3 can bond to form a ring structure. A3 represents a hydrogen atom or an optionally substituted C1-10 alkyl group, alkenyl group or alkynyl group.)
