Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a copolymer endowed with a favorable calcium ion capturing capacity, calcium carbonate dispersibility, and gelation resistance.SOLUTION: The provided maleic acid-based copolymer composition includes, as a copolymer including, as indispensable structural units, (a) 15-85 mol% of structural units derived from a monomer expressed by the following general formula (1) with respect to 100 mol% of structural units derived from all monomers and (b) 15-85 mol% of structural units derived from maleic acid (maleate), a maleic acid-based copolymer having a weight-based average molecular weight of 500-4,000, whereas the content of hydrogen peroxide therein is 0-500 ppm: (in the general formula (1), Rexpresses a hydrogen atom or methyl group, whereas X and Y are mutually independent and each express a hydroxyl group or sulfonic acid (sulfonate) group (although at least either of X and Y expresses a sulfonic acid (sulfonate) group).
