To provide a ceramide-added GPI anchor-type protein(GIPC-AP) synthase and a gene encoding the same, and to provide a GIPC-AP and a ceramide by using the synthase and the gene.
The synthase is such as to function to add a ceramide on the final stage of the step of lipid remodeling to GPI anchor-type protein. The gene encoding the synthase is also provided. Based on the findings that, for a yeast's CWH43 protein and a gene encoding the same, proteins derived from human and mouse respectively having high homology in the latter half and first half portions of Cwh43 form conjugates as α subunit and β subunit respectively to function as GIPC-AP synthases respectively, and Cwh43C and Cwh43N proteins can have similar subunit structures respectively in a yeast cell, methods for efficiently producing a GIPC-AP synthase conjugate, the GIPC-AP and ceramides, and further, a GIPC-AP precursor substance, are also provided, respectively.
