Abstract:
The invention provides a method of producing a polyrotaxane having cyclic molecules, a linear molecule threaded through the cyclic molecules to form a clathrate, and blocking groups at both ends of the linear molecule to prevent the separation of the cyclic molecules from the linear molecule, the method including forming the blocking groups by reacting the linear molecule piercing the cyclic molecules, the linear molecule having carboxyl groups at both ends thereof, with a blocking agent having an amino group in the absence of a solvent or in at least one organic solvent selected from the group consisting of aprotic amide solvents and aromatic hydrocarbons, and further in the presence of 2.0 mol to 100 mol of a triazine-based amidating agent per 1 mol of the carboxyl groups in the linear molecule.
