Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing ethanol with high production efficiency in a method of producing ethanol from a lignocellulose-based raw material.SOLUTION: A method of producing ethanol from a lignocellulose-based raw material comprises: a primary saccharification and fermentation step of saccharifying and fermenting a lignocellulose-based raw material by using a hexose fermenting microorganism; and a secondary fermentation step of fermenting the liquid after the primary saccharification and fermentation step by using a pentose fermenting microorganism. The secondary fermentation is performed while maintaining glucose concentration of the liquid to 0.5 mass% or less, the liquid being supplied to a supply port of a secondary fermentation tank used in the secondary fermentation step, and/or the primary saccharification and fermentation step is performed in the retention time such that glucose concentration of a culture medium becomes 1.0 mass% or less, the culture medium being discharged from a discharging port of a primary saccharification and fermentation tank used in the primary saccharification and fermentation step.
