Abstract:
This method for producing a lubricant base oil has a step in which a stock oil containing hydrocarbons having at least 21 carbon atoms is brought into contact with a first catalyst and a second catalyst in the order thereof in the presence of hydrogen, said method being characterized in that: the first catalyst includes a carrier containing a binder and a zeolite having a 10-membered ring one-dimensional pore structure, and platinum and/or palladium carried by the carrier; the zeolite is derived from an ion-exchanged zeolite obtained by ion-exchanging, in a solution containing ammonium ions and/or protons, an organic template-containing zeolite that includes an organic template and has a 10-membered ring one-dimensional pore structure; the carbon content of the catalyst is 0.4-3.5 mass%; the second catalyst has a carrier containing a zeolite having a 10-membered ring one-dimensional pore structure, and platinum and/or palladium carried by the carrier; the total amount of the platinum and/or palladium supported based on 100 pts. mass of the carrier is 0.05-0.4 pts. mass in terms of metal atoms; and the ratio (V1 / V2) of the volume of the first catalyst (V1) and the volume of the second catalyst (V2) is 70/30-90/10.
