Abstract:

To provide a catalyst for purifying exhaust gas whose necessary amount of an active metal is small, and which is hard to reduce activity even if using for a long time under a high temperature condition.

The catalyst for purifying exhaust gas is constituted by supporting an active metal such as a precious metal on a carrier containing BaAl2O4, and BaZrO3. It is favorable that the content of BaAl2O4is not less than 25 wt.% and not greater than 72 wt.% of the weight of the catalyst for purifying exhaust gas, and the content of the total amount of BaAl2O4, and BaZrO3is not less than 26 wt.% and not greater than 99.9 wt.% of the weight of the catalyst for purifying exhaust gas in the above case. Since it is presumed that the activity of the active metal is enhanced by providing such constitution, high catalytic activity can be maintained even if sintering proceeds, which leads to decreasing a specific surface area of the carrier and agglomerating the active metal on the carrier.
