Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a rack bar, capable of achieving both weight saving and productivity improvement.SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing a rack bar 10 having a first rack 20 and a second rack 21 in which a prescribed rotation angle difference is set around a central axis includes: a first preliminary molding step of forming a first flat surface F1 in the outer periphery of a first end part of one hollow shaft material 11; a second preliminary molding step of forming a second flat surface F2 in a position at a prescribed rotation angle to the first flat surface F1 in the outer periphery of a second end part of the shaft material 11; a first tooth molding step of forming the first rack 20 by subjecting flesh of the first flat surface F1 to plastic flow toward a tooth die 209 by press-fitting a core grid 203 in a state of pressing the tooth die 209 to the first flat surface F1 via an opening at a first end side of the shaft material 11; and a second tooth molding step of forming the second rack 21 by subjecting flesh of the second flat surface F2 to plastic flow toward the tooth die 209 by press-fitting the core grid 203 in a state of pressing the tooth die 209 to the second flat surface F2 via an opening at a second end side of the shaft material 11.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7
