Abstract:
To provide a rack-and-pinion type steering unit and a manufacturing method of the rack-and-pinion type steering unit capable of reducing a sense of being caught at the time of beginning steering while suppressing a rise in a manufacture cost, and improving a steering feeling.SOLUTION: A steering gear unit 3 includes a rack shaft 31 having rack teeth 311 and turning front wheels 14,14 by making an axial direction movement, a pinion shaft 32 having pinion teeth 321 and rotating along with a steering manipulation performed on a steering wheel 10, and a housing 33 that bears the rack shaft 31 and pinion shaft 32 and accommodates engaged parts 30 of the rack teeth 311 and pinion teeth 321. When the steering wheel 10 lies at a neutral position, the pinion teeth 321 are engaged with the rack teeth 311 at a rotating position at which a torque needed to cause the rack shaft 31 to make an axial direction movement during one rotation of the pinion shaft 32 is minimized.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
