Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a stainless steel for fuel battery separators which has excellent electrical conductivity and durability, and a stainless steel for fuel battery separators, a fuel battery separator, and a fuel battery.SOLUTION: The stainless steel for fuel battery separators 4,5 is manufactured by performing an electrolytic treatment on a stainless steel containing Cr in the proportion of 16 mass% or more, followed by an immersion treatment in a fluorine-containing liquid solution. The electrolytic treatment is executed by anode electrolysis, or a combination of anode electrolysis and cathode electrolysis; it is preferred that a quantity Qa of anode electrolysis, and a quantity Qc of cathode electrolysis meet the relation of Qa≥Qc. It is preferred that the fluorine-containing liquid solution is hydrofluoric acid or nitric hydrofluoric acid, in which the hydrofluoric acid concentration [HF] and the nitric acid concentration [HNO] satisfy the relation of [HF]≥0.8×[HNO] at a temperature of 40°C or higher. Incidentally, the units of the hydrofluoric acid concentration [HF] and nitric acid concentration [HNO] are both mass%.
