Abstract:
The molten metal (15), in particular molten aluminium or an aluminium alloy, is fed to the adjustable roll gap (w) of two casting rolls (42,44) of the horizontal strip casting machine (18) by means of a nozzle horizontally displaceable and vertically adjustable on a slide (56). The supply to the nozzle is interrupted to allow it to be replaced or cleaned and the slide (56) is moved out of and back into the region of the casting rolls (42,44).
The metal continues to be supplied from a fixed launder (34) into a mobile launder (36) and/or into a melt distribution trough (28) of the nozzle even during an interruption in casting.
A fixed launder (34) with an outlet which is arranged in the region of the front end and can be closed by means of an adjustable plug is arranged over a mobile launder (36) arranged on a slide (56) in a manner which allows it to be displaced longitudinally or to be displaced longitudinally and pivoted sideways and having a melt distribution trough (28), separated off by an adjustable opening, for the nozzle. The outlet (32) of the fixed launder (34) remains above the mobile launder (36) at all times while the said mobile launder is being displaced longitudinally and/or pivoted sideways.
