Abstract:
A micromixer for the continuous dynamic mixing of two or more fluids and a polymerization process employing the micromixer. The micromixer comprises a rotor comprising a shaft equipped with blades mounted in groups around it perpendicular to its longitudinal axis, the groups being spaced from one another along the shaft and a stator in the form of a hollow cylinder shaped to accept the rotor and equipped at one end with inlets for the entry of the two fluids and at the other an exit for the mixture. The inlets are preferably diametrically opposed to one another. A cutaway view of the mixer is shown at Fig. 5 The polymerization process comprises starting up the rotor, introducing to fluids, of which one is reactive, recovering the mixed fluids and polymerizing, either wholly after exit from the mixer or partially during transit through the mixer and partially after exit from it.
