Abstract:
Solid catalyst (I) with a Hammett acidity of less than +2 based on tungsten compounds, also contains promoter(s) selected from compounds of gold, silver, copper, platinum, rhodium, palladium, ruthenium, samarium, cerium, yttrium, scandium, lanthanum, zinc, magnesium, iron, cobalt or nickel and/or montmorillonite or acid zeolites. An independent claim is included for a method for the production of acrolein by the dehydration of glycerol in presence of solid tungsten-containing catalysts (I) containing promoters as above (including vanadium compounds) and optionally compounds of lithium, sodium, potassium or caesium.
