PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an effective method for obtaining, in high yield, a compound having two or more carboxyl groups from a primary alcohol having a first hydroxyl group and a second hydroxyl group in molecule.SOLUTION: Provided is a method for producing a carboxylic acid which, when obtaining a compound having two or more carboxyl groups by oxidizing a primary alcohol having a first hydroxyl group and a second hydroxyl group in molecule, mesoporous carbon containing metal particles and nitrogen atoms is used as a catalyst.SELECTED DRAWING: None
