Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a moisture retaining particle that has a low environmental load and a high stability.SOLUTION: The moisture retaining particle is obtained by oxidizing the carbon and hydroxyl groups at the 6-position of particulate polysaccharide using a nitroxy radical or a nitroxy radical derivative as a catalyst and introducing a carboxy group only at the 6-position of the polysaccharide. Preferably hypochlorite is used as an oxidizing agent for oxidizing carbon and hydroxyl groups of the polysaccharide. In the moisture retaining particle, also, the total amount of the carboxy group is preferably in the range of 0.10 mmol/g to 2.00 mmol/g.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
