PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absorption heat pump and an operation method of the absorption heat pump for avoiding transmission of absorption heat to a heated medium after demand loss for the heated medium.SOLUTION: An absorption heat pump 1 is provided with an absorber 10 for heating a heated medium Wq by absorption heat produced when a solution Sa absorbs refrigerant vapor Ve, a regenerator 30 for desorbing a refrigerant Vg from the solution Sw, solution pipes 16, 35 for circulating solutions Sw, Sa, a bypass means 50 for guiding the solution Sa to a downstream side of a heating pipe 11 in a system of the circulating the solutions Sa, Sw without guiding it to a solution spray nozzle 12 so that the circulating solutions will not contact the heating pipe 11, a heated medium demand loss detection means 58 for detecting demand loss for the heated medium Wv, and a control device 99. When demand loss for heated medium Wv is detected, the control device 99 controls the bypass means 50 so that the solution Sa will bypass the heating pipe 11. Accordingly, it is possible to avoid transmission of absorption heat to the heating pipe 11 after demand loss for the heated medium Wv.
