To provide a pigment dispersant realizing stable and good dispersibility, storage stability and high staining power of a pigment without coalescence and favorably applicable to production of a color filter.

The pigment dispersant mainly composed of a modified polyallylamine is prepared by a reaction of an amino group of a polyallylamine with (A) a vinyl copolymer having a functional group reactive with the amino group on one terminal, and (B) a vinyl copolymer having an amount of a functional group reactive with the amino group on one terminal and the copolymer composition or the copolymer composition ratio is different from that of the vinyl copolymer (A), (C) a (meth)acrylate having a polyalkylene glycol chain, (D) a polyester having a functional group reactive with the amino group on one terminal, a polyamide having a functional group reactive with the amino group on one terminal or a polyester amide having a functional group reactive with the amino group on one terminal, or a monocarboxylic acid or the (meth)acrylate.
