Abstract:
To provide a plastic optical fiber (for example, for side light emission) excellent in optical characteristics, heat resistance, and mechanical strength.SOLUTION: A plastic optical fiber includes: a core containing a polymethyl methacrylate-based resin; a cladding layer that surrounds a periphery of the core and contains a transparent fluororesin a refractive index of which is lower than that of the core; and, further outside the cladding layer, a protection layer that contains a transparent resin a refractive index of which is higher than that of the cladding layer. An absolute value of a difference between linear expansion coefficients of respective resins included in the core, the cladding layer, and the protection layer is 10×10-5/K or less.SELECTED DRAWING: None
