Abstract:

To provide polymer coated protein microspheres for extended and uniform release of protein in an aqueous or physiological environment over time.SOLUTION: A microparticle contains a core of therapeutic protein, and a cortex of a specific biocompatible and biodegradable polymer such as poly(lactic acid) (PLA), and has a diameter of about 5 μm to about 40 μm. Also provided are production and use of the microparticle.EFFECT: Extended release of a therapeutic protein from such microparticles in a physiological solution is demonstrated over an extended period of time.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
