To provide a position detecting system for severing equipment which can recognize quickly and easily the present position relation between a mother ship and the severing equipment and is effective in making the work in the broadside deck of the mother ship unnecessary.
A remote control means 2 measures the laid distance between the mother ship and the severing equipment; and outputs the distance to a position detecting means 3, which stores the received distance and present latitude and longitude of the mother ship, as distance measurement data. Since the distance measurement data necessary for position calculation are selected, the laid position is calculated. The calculated laid position is displayed on a mother ship position display image plane for displaying a present position of the mother ship. The remote control means 2 is connected with the position detecting means 3 via a data communication cable 19, so that the position detecting means 2 can be set in a cabin.
