Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer and printing method capable of accurately and quickly adjusting a gap distance between a nozzle surface of a carriage unit and a support surface of a support member in accordance with the thickness of a recording medium.SOLUTION: A printer 1 performs printing on a recording medium while conveying the recording medium having flexibility. The printer 1 comprises: a carriage unit 6 which has a nozzle surface 621 formed with a nozzle for discharging ink onto the recording medium at the time of printing; a platen 56 which faces the nozzle surface 621 via a gap 131 at the time of discharging ink and has a support surface 561 supporting the recording medium; and an adjustment mechanism 8 which adjusts a gap distance GD between the nozzle surface 621 and the support surface 561. The adjustment mechanism 8 includes a lifting part 9A and a lifting part 9B which are arranged so as to be deviated in the conveyance direction of the recording medium and lift the carriage unit 6 up and down in the direction in which the nozzle surface 621 approaches and separates to and from the support surface 561.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
