Abstract:
PURPOSE:To economically obtain a high quality lube base oil having a high content of an isoparaffin, a monocyclic naphthene, etc., and a low polycyclic aromatic matter content by hydrocracking a vacuum distillation oil, etc., in the presence of a hydrocracking catalyst under specified conditions, followed by dewaxing and removal of aromatic matter. CONSTITUTION:A vacuum distillation oil, a deasphalted oil or an oil obtained by mild hydrocracking of these oils, or a mixture thereof is hydrocracked in the presence of a hydrocracking catalyst under reaction conditions of a total pressure of 150kg/cm<2> or lower, a temperature of 360-440 deg.C, and an LHSV of 0.5hr<-1> so as to provide a rate of decomposition of at least 40wt.%. The cracking product as it is or a lubricating fraction collected therefrom is dewaxed, and aromatic matter is removed therefrom, thus giving a lube base oil having a total aromatic matter content of 2-15wt.%, a total of the isoparaffin and monocyclic naphthene in the saturated matter of at least 60wt.%, an alkylbenzene content in the total aromatic matter of 30wt.%, a tricyclic and tetracyclic aromatic matter content of 4wt.% or less, a viscosity index of 105 or higher, and a pour point of -10 deg.C or lower.
