PURPOSE: To easily and accurately input a character by selecting data to be displayed on an input character guide display area by switching plural stored character data tables and selecting a required character from displayed characters.

CONSTITUTION: Plural character data tables are stored in a data ROM 6 and stored data are read out from the ROM 6 under the control of a control circuit 1. A display device 8 for displaying data inputted from a keyboard 7 or data or the like read out from the ROM 6 is constituted of the 1st display area consisting of 16 digits for displaying inputted characters and the 2nd display area (input character guide display area) for displaying the data of 5 characters read out from a character data table. When a required line is selected by a line data selecting key (numerical keys 2, 8) on the keyboard 7 after selecting a required table by a table switching key (numerical key 5) and then a required column is selected by a column data selecting key (numerical keys 4, 6), a required character can be selected.
