Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a polarizing substance excellent in stabilities to ultraviolet rays, high-temp. and humidity, and containing iodine adsorbed thereby by incorporating a complex formed by reacting elemental iodine, a hydrohalogenic acid and/or an ammonium halide or an alkali or alkaline dearth metal halide. and a specified compd. into the substance.
CONSTITUTION: This polarizing substance contains a complex formed by reacting elemental iodine, a hydrohalogenic acid and/or an ammonium halide or an alkali or alkaline earth metal halide (e.g. CaI2), and a compd. of the formula (wherein R1 is carboxyl; and R2 is carboxyl, methoxy, nitro, amino, hydroxyl, or a lower alkyl group substd. by a carboxyl, hydroxyl, or methoxy group).
