Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for processing a supply of post-use scrap linear low density polyethylene film or low density polyethylene film into near-virgin quality blown film product.SOLUTION: After tearing a supply of a film in a shredder 18, the surface area of the film is exposed by inter-layer delamination of the film. By agitating and washing the torn film supply in a water bath containing a surfactant, contaminants on the film are removed from the film. By grinding the washed film into smaller pieces, and by additionally washing the ground film in a rotating friction washer 36, additional contaminants are removed from the film. Then, the ground film is dried and compacted, without addition of water, into granulated objects of near-virgin quality blown film product.
